Klansville USA

Klansville USA is about the rise of the Ku Klux Klan in North Carolina during the 1960s. The leader, Bob Jones, was able to build the membership to include millions of members nationwide. What struck me the most is that when the Second Klan was formed, it not only had hate towards blacks but also people with religious affiliations such as Jews and Catholics. It is also interested to know that all this was going on years ago in the state that I now reside. I feel as though Bob Jones was successful in getting people on board because it made them feel as if they had power over others and they were a part of a community. When people of common interests come together and share ideas, they are able to expand their circle . I just feel as if it is crazy that it grew so large as a hate group. I have always wondered what the central reason is for people to commit horrific acts. I came to the conclusion that there really isn't one central reason, it is many. Economically white people had less to worry about when they had slaves because it was free labor. Characteristics of slavery before the Civil Rights Movement were carried on to the future and the KKK continued to use brutality against African Americans. Bob Jones could even be viewed as a businessman because he influenced others to adopt the same ideas as him and then they needed to pay a fee to become a member. Money and power are recurring themes when thinking about why people perform particular acts. There was nothing that the minorities did for them to develop hate towards them. Bob Jones was able to create a group that put him in power and those are the events that will always be remembered in history.
