EOTO Jim Crow Era

I decided to write about the other group's EOTO because I learned about a lot of information that I did not know. First they talked about the literacy tests that African Americans had to take in order to vote which were created so that it was almost impossible for them to pass. There were 68 questions on the initial test but they were allowed to ask even more on Ballot Day. I enjoyed how the group made it interactive and we were able to see try to answer some of the test questions. They also presented on the origin of the name "Jim Crow". I had no idea that there was a song written named "Jim Crow" that was written by a struggling actor named Thomas Dartmouth. As entertainment, white actors used blackface to imitate slaves. They also spoke about lynching during Jim Crow Era as a way to spread fear among African Americans. The Ku Klux Klan was created after the Civil War where Klansmen were glorified and there was a myth that they "saved the south". The ideals of the initial group extended to creation of The Second Klan. Lastly, they spoke about school segregation which forced whites and blacks to attend different schools. The schools for blacks were in rundown houses and information was withheld from them so that they were not aware of freedom and equality. Whites were given a better education and a more promising future. Most Blacks had as little as an elementary education and started working at a young age to support their families.
